The Anderson Center is pleased to present Brian Laidlaw (The Stuntman, The Mirrormaker) as part of their Books in the Barn reading series. Books in the Barn is a reading series hosted by the Anderson Center, which will bring some of the best writers in the region to Red Wing to present their work in the historic barn event space. This three-part series offers a wide-ranging look at the work of contemporary writers. Through diverse forms and world-views, each brings a sense of connection to place and the impact of landscape on storytelling and identity.

Brian Laidlaw
Brian Laidlaw is the author of The Stuntman and The Mirrormaker. An accomplished musician, he has toured widely in the United States and Europe. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota’s MFA program in poetry and is currently pursuing a PhD in creative writing at the University of Denver.
These poems relocate the myth of Echo and Narcissus to the mining town of Hibbing, Minnesota. Drawing inspiration from the high school relationship between Bob Dylan and Echo Helstrom, they do with language what miners have always done to the earth: peel back the layers and extract what lies below the surface.
