Milkweed Editions is one of the nation’s leading independent literary presses. Our mission is to identify, nurture and publish transformative literature, and build an engaged community around it. Milkweed Books is our brick-and-mortar independent bookstore located in the Open Book literary center in downtown Minneapolis.
Position Summary:
The Bookstore Manager is responsible for managing operations, finance, staff, inventory, partnerships, events, and communications for Milkweed Books. This individual is responsible for growing bookstore revenue and building community in the space that is in alignment with the values and mission of Milkweed Editions.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Bookselling
- Buying and managing inventory
- Managing business operations
- Hiring and managing part-time staff
- Engaging with a growing community in an increasingly vibrant urban neighborhood
- Conceptualizing and executing engaging events
- Contributing creatively and collaboratively to a dynamic publishing team
Ideal candidates will have at least 3-5 years of experience as a bookstore manager and/or bookseller, and a strong affinity for the mission, values, and vision of Milkweed Editions. Comfort working independently and collaboratively, and thinking creatively to solve problems, are also critical to success in this role.
This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits. The salary range is $50-55K, depending on experience.
