The Dog with Golden Eyes

BY Frances Wilbur

Cassie, bored, friendless, and lonely, finds a beautiful dog in her backyard. After adopting him as her pet, she realizes he’s a full-grown Arctic wolf. Determined to care for her new friend and find his real home, Cassie learns that she has resources and strengths she never realized she had.

Editorial ReviewGoodreads Review

“An old-fashioned theme that anyone can embrace.”

Minneapolis Star Tribune

“This is a readable, engaging novel with special appeal for animal lovers.”

Booklist

“Thirteen-year-old Cassie's plight is not new: she wants a dog and her mother won't allow it. Cassie is trying to “adopt' a stray without her mother finding out. However, this particular “aristocratic' looking canine . . . is actually an arctic wolf. . . . This tale is chock full of information about dog and wolf behavior.”

Publishers Weekly

“The wolf story is engaging and knowledgeably written. . . . Readers will understand both Cassie's yearning to keep Toklata and in inarguable reasons why it's better for both of them if she didn't.”

The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books (University of Illinois)

“The story concludes with an exciting climax. . . . This novel is an easy read that will appeal to animal lovers and reluctant readers.”
