Milkweed Editions, one of the nation’s leading independent book publishers, seeks a VP, Engagement & Chief Innovation Officer. Our offices are located in the Open Book literary center in downtown Minneapolis. For more information, visit milkweed.org/our-story.
The VP, Engagement will oversee our marketing discipline, working with our Marketing Director to create and execute ambitious, highly innovative promotional plans for the 25-30 titles we publish each year. With sales growing exponentially and a publishing program distinguished recently by major awards, we are well positioned to build on strong momentum and outstanding relationships across traditional channels in the marketplace.
The VP, Engagement will also be responsible for leading the creation and execution of an annual marketing campaign for the Milkweed Editions brand. In 2021, the successful applicant will oversee an expansive national brand-building campaign supported by a top-tier creative agency. The national campaign will be the first in our 40-year history. It is intended, in part, to support the launch of a membership program.
As Chief Innovation Officer, this individual will lead the change required in order to realize the opportunities offered by a rapidly changing publishing ecosystem. Podcasts. YouTube. Netflix. Instagram. Audiobooks. Ebooks. The number of platforms available for connecting writers with readers is growing, and our CIO will lead discovery of the myriad ways in which the authors and content we publish can be distributed, identifying exciting new partnerships, sponsorships, events, and digital platforms that grow Milkweed’s communities of customers and donors. The successful applicant will bring a deep understanding of the current media landscape and will forge strong relationships among key cultural influencers, media companies, major arts and cultural institutions, corporations, and other creative partners who can help broaden our audience and build awareness for our mission.
The VP, Engagement & CIO will report to the Publisher & CEO of Milkweed Editions. This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits. Salary is expected to be in the $100-120K range, determined based on experience. Please submit a resume, two references, and a cover letter addressed to Daniel Slager in one combined PDF via Submittable.
