Abby Travis is an Editor at Milkweed Editions. Prior to joining Milkweed in 2015, Abby served as Senior Editorial Assistant for Ploughshares and worked under the academic dean on program development and communications in the Office of the School of the Arts at Emerson College in Boston. She has also taught literature at Gustavus Adolphus College and writing at Emerson College, where she earned her MFA with a focus in creative nonfiction. Her writing has been recognized as Notable by Best American Essays.
I work at Milkweed because, as a writer, I believe that all members of the literary ecosystem—from writers to publishers to readers, educators to booksellers and librarians, donors to book-buyers—share responsibility for supporting, connecting, and challenging critical cultural conversations.
Abby’s role spans editorial, marketing, and development. In addition to supporting acquisitions and serving as title manager for several books a year, she is responsible for the press’s communications and content strategy, a range of digital initiatives, and manages the internship program. Please contact her with questions regarding our digital presence, editorial content, or communications.
