Srikanth Reddy to Judge 2017 Lindquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry

Milkweed Staff — 12/06/2016

One of the largest annual regional poetry prizes, the Lindquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry celebrates a region rich with poetic heritage and seeks to support poets residing in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Submissions for the prize, now in its sixth year, will be open from January 2–February 15, 2017.

There is no fee to submit.

Srikanth Reddy will judge the 2017 prize:

“I’m most excited by young writers who refuse to ‘perform’ their literary identities in conformity with this or that iteration of a period style today. Formal originality, emotional urgency, and a sly subversion of literary expectation all come together in the strongest new books I’ve come across lately.” —Srikanth Reddy

Finalists will be notified and announced before April 1 and will be invited to read at Milkweed’s annual National Poetry Month public reading on Thursday, April 13 at Open Book in Minneapolis. The winner will be notified and announced before May 1. The winning collection will be published in the fall of 2017, and a public book launch and celebration will be held in November.
