VIRTUAL EVENT

Join the Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah for a “Virtual Fall Celebration” at 2pm PT on Zoom. The featured speaker will be celebrated author and ornithologist J. Drew Lanham, author of The Home Place. Register here.

Exploring the convergence of conservation and culture, Dr. Lanham’s virtual remarks will reflect on his lifelong love of birds and wildlife and the part they play as connectors across time, place and cultures throughout history. Lanham believes that for conservation of wildlife and greenspaces to be truly successful it must generate a deep appreciation for the cultural ties that link people of all backgrounds to the natural world. The author/educator’s enthusiasm and gift for storytelling has brought birding—and its connections to history and race—to a new generation of diverse audiences across the country.

Attendees may win a signed copy of Lanham’s memoir, which received the Reed Award from the Southern Environmental Law Center and the Southern Book Prize and was a finalist for the John Burroughs Medal. VIP-level ticketholders ($75) will participate in an exclusive online conversation with Lanham. A $20 reservation for the event supports the important restoration and stewardship work of the Friends.
