Monmouth College students and community members will have a chance to hear from John McCarthy at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Mellinger Teaching Learning Center when he reads from his new collection of poetry, Scared Violent like Horses.
His second collection, McCarthy’s latest volume, was chosen by notable writer Victoria Chang as the winner of the Jake Adam York Prize. Copies of his work will be for sale at the reading.

John McCarthy
John McCarthy is the author of Scared Violent Like Horses, selected by Victoria Chang as winner of the Jake Adam York Prize, and Ghost Country, named a Best Poetry Book of 2016 by the Chicago Review of Books. He serves as an editor of RHINO magazine and the Quiddity international literary journal and public radio program.
