Please join Poetry Asylum in welcoming to Minneapolis South Dakota Poet Laureate (& Milkweed Editions author) Lee Ann Roripaugh, as well as Tiana Clark (currently a fellow at WICW), and New Haven-based poet Jason Labbe. Joining them are local superstars: St. Paul’s inaugural Youth Poet Laureate Donte Collins, and D. Allen and Chaun Webster––all three poets have newly published or upcoming books.
The cafe at Moon Palace Books is now open––so come and enjoy their selection of pizzas, salads, and sandwiches named after famous writers, and wash it down with some wine or beer. Then head over to Assembly for the after-party so you can meet the out-of-town guests.
Lee Ann Roripaugh
Lee Ann Roripaigh is the author of numerous collections of poems, including Dandarians and tsunami vs. the fukushima 50. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of South Dakota Review and directs the creative writing program at the University of South Dakota. She is currently the South Dakota Poet Laureate.
Heian-period Japanese women writers, science fiction, and the author’s own experience as a second-generation immigrant: these are some of the sources these poems use to explore the connection between identity and language. Wonderfully lyrical and strikingly acute, this collection is an essential contribution to contemporary Asian American literature.
