VIRTUAL EVENT
Aimee Nezhukumatathil and Carolyn Finney join The Loft Literary Center for this “Big Ideas” conversation on the ways our racial identities shape our relationships to the natural world. Whose stories about nature and the environment get to be told? Who is nature “for”? Here in Minnesota many of us celebrate the joy of outdoor adventures but the “great outdoors” isn’t necessarily as transcendent, as universal, or as one-size-fits-all as it’s often been portrayed.
AImee Nezhukumatathil is the author of World of Wonders, a book of essays on the author’s wonderment at finding personal resonance in the world around her. Carolyn Finney is the author of Black Faces, White Spaces, an interrogation of Black Americans’ underrepresentation in environmental movements and outdoor recreation.
