This year’s Wordplay will be specifically curated around the Loft’s 2022/2023 theme: Narrative Power. Toni Cade Bambara said, “The job of the writer is to make the revolution irresistible.” The Loft’s programming will explore how writers exercise narrative power to lead and influence movements for social change. We are excited to feature authors in all genres whose books inspire revolution in any of the following topics:

- Health and Wellness
- Climate Change
- LGBTQIA2S+ Rights
- Gender Equity & Equality
- and more!
We are proud to share that three Milkweed authors – Diane Wilson, Claire Wahmanholm, and Juliet Patterson are a part of the lineup.

Diane Wilson
Diane Wilson (Dakota) is the author of The Seed Keeper, as well as a memoir, Spirit Car: Journey to a Dakota Past, and a nonfiction book, Beloved Child: A Dakota Way of Life. She is the executive director for the Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance, a national coalition of tribes and organizations working to create sovereign food systems for Native people. She is a Mdewakanton descendent, enrolled on the Rosebud Reservation, and lives in Shafer, Minnesota.
Claire Wahmanholm
Claire Wahmanholm is the author of Meltwater, Redmouth, and Wilder, which won the Lindquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry and the Society of Midland Authors Award for Poetry, and was a finalist for the 2019 Minnesota Book Award.
Juliet Patterson
Juliet Patterson is the author of Sinkhole, as well as two collections of poems, Threnody and The Truant Lover, a finalist for the Lambda Award. Her poems and essays have appeared widely.
