Portland Book Festival hosts a cross-genre discussion of environmental justice and the inseparableness of the climate crisis and economic inequality, featuring John Freeman, editor of Tales of Two Planets and author of The Park. John will be in conversation with Aimee Nezhukumatathil, acclaimed poet (Oceanic) and author of the illustrated essay collection about the natural world and the way its inhabitants can teach, support, and inspire us, World of Wonders; and Kawai Strong Washburn, whose debut novel is Sharks in the Time of Saviors, in which supernatural events force a family to reckon with the meaning of heritage and the cost of survival. Aimee Nezhukumatathil
Aimee Nezhukumatathil is the author of World of Wonders, an illustrated essay collection, as well as of four books of poetry, including, most recently, Oceanic, winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Award. She serves as poetry faculty for the Writing Workshops in Greece and is professor of English and Creative Writing in the University of Mississippi’s MFA program.
